Compound radius
De toets heeft meestal dezelfde radius over de hele lengte van de hals.
Vintage Fender halzen hebben een ronde 10” of zelfs 7 1/4” radius wat heel prettig is om akkoorden te spelen.
Maar wil je kunnen soleren dan moeten de snaren vrij hoog afgesteld worden anders is het onmogelijk de snaren op te drukken zonder dat ze aan gaan lopen.
Een vlakkere 16” toets heeft dit probleem niet maar voelt bij akkoordenwerk weer veel minder comfortabel.
Daarom maken we al onze necks, behalve de ‘vintage’ types, met een compound radius toets. De 10” radius bij de topkam loopt regelmatig uit naar 16” aan het eind van de toets.
Dit garandeert een zeer lage afstelling, probleemloos opdrukken en veel speelcomfort.
Compound radius
A fingerboard usually has the same radius from the nut to the end of the neck.
Vintage Fender necks have a 10” or even 7 1/4” radius so are very round and comfortable for rhythm work and chording. But without high string action, string bending is not an option, the strings "fret-out".
To achieve low action and no buzz string bending, many necks resort to a less round 16" fingerboard radius that has proven to afford 2-1/2 step bends with ultra low string action.This certainly works, but the comfort factor is lost.
That is why all our necks, except for the ‘vintage’ types, have a compound radius fingerboard.
It has a 10” radius at the nut and a 16” radius at the end of the
finger-board.
The best of both worlds ! It improves both comfort and playability.
